Waiting for the perfect day to go on a bicycle ride? On Sunday, September 25, gear up and join 3000 cyclists at Kapiolani Park for the largest cycling event in Hawaii, the Honolulu Century Ride. You’ll enjoy a long bike ride along the southeast shore of the island in the company of cyclists and support from the community.
There’s no better way to spend a late September weekend than biking along the coast of Hawaii with your friends and family. Experienced cyclists can plan on going the full 100 miles. Or choose a 75-, 50- or 25-mile bike ride. If that still sounds like too long of a distance, then consider the new Aloha Fun Ride for just 9 or 18 miles.
Every year, people travel from all over the world to participate in the event. Some bring their own bicycles while others choose to rent for the day or weekend. Cyclists show up at the starting line at 6:15 a.m. and then head out, stopping along the aid stations for fresh fruit and sports drinks, and if needed, getting help from mechanics at local bike shops. Eki Cyclery will be at the 25 mile Sandy Beach turnaround offering mechanical help to any cyclists in need.
By attending the event, you’ll help the Hawaii Bicycling League raise money to make The Aloha State a safer place to bike, walk, and drive. To participate, visit the Honolulu Century Ride website and register. If you need to purchase a new bicycle, or a spare tube, or get any repairs before the big ride, then stop in at Eki Cyclery or give them a call at (808) 847-2005 today.
