Based in Waialua, HI, Pacific Skydiving Center offers adventures for both novice and experienced skydivers, and they hold the distinction of being the only military-certified skydiving facility on the island of Oahu.

These experts say altitude is a crucial component in your skydiving experience; your altitude will determine the time spent in your freefall. Here are three tips for choosing the right altitude:

  • Take A Gentle Start: If you're new to skydiving, it's a good idea to get acclimatized to the experience by having your jump occur from a relatively low altitude. An altitude of 8,000 to 10,000 feet is a good place to start. From this height, you will achieve a freefall of 15 to 20 seconds.
  • skydivingAmp Up Your Thrills: If you're a more experienced skydiver or newbie who wants an experience with a boosted thrill quotient, you can choose to jump from a higher altitude. A popular jump height is 14,000 to 15,000 feet, and this is the highest altitude you can jump from without requiring an oxygen mask. From this altitude, your freefall will last about 60 seconds.
  • Get Extreme: If you're an experienced skydiver looking for unparalleled excitement, you can opt to jump from even higher heights. Extreme jumps at altitudes of 22,000 to 24,000 feet are available, and from this height, your freefall will last about 100 seconds. This jump requires wearing an oxygen mask.
