Since the ONE WORLD BROOKLYN KIDS CHORUS was founded in 2012 during Hurricane Sandy, the group has given three concert performances featuring music from around the globe in a variety of genres, including folk, blues, jazz, and pop. The kids have been joined by special musical guests, including the legendary New Orleans jazz & blues pianist HENRY BUTLER, whose impeccable skills and distinguished career have inspired countless audiences.
"The kids immediately connected with HENRY BUTLER, and we are thrilled to have him back for our gala performance on May 18th, 2014. In addition, we are delighted to welcome back our composer-in-residence, LISA GUTKIN, to the lineup of top talent." Erica Kalick, Executive Director of the ONE WORLD BROOKLYN KIDS CHORUS, states.
LISA GUTKIN, the Grammy award-winning fiddler and member of the famed KLEZMATICS, will perform and rehearse with the ONE WORLD BROOKLYN KIDS CHORUS during the 2013-2014 season. She will also premier a new surprise song for the kids.
"I loved the dedication that these kids had at the rehearsals and how much they embraced the songs. But then the concert came and they rose even higher. They were seriously professional. I can't wait to see them again." says Ms. Gutkin.
The tour runs from Thursday, September 26th (with rehearsals held every Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30 pm @ the LAPC) and culminates to a concert on Sunday, December 8th at the LAPC from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A "Meet & Greet" reception will follow with special FREE sweet treats from ERICA'S RUGELACH & BAKING, CO, which features award-winning raspberry rugelach, coconut chocolate dipped macaroons and assorted specialty cookies. One of the highlights of the Gala Fundraising concert, which took place May 19th, was a lovely arrangement of "You've Got a Friend" featuring, Ms. Russell who was joined by celebrated jazz vocalist, CARLA COOK.
"There were so many beautiful moments during the concerts and I was so moved to see how Ms. Russell and Ms. Cook, both members of the LAPC congregation, rose to the occasion to support the kids with their amazing vocal & musical gifts."
