For this edition of their physician spotlight series, the team at Obstetrics & Gynecology Associates in Fairfield, Ohio, is excited to introduce Dr. Ian Foley who has been with them since 2006. From an early job behind the camera to finding his calling in medicine and women’s health, follow Dr. Foley’s path to the much-loved doctor we know today! 

Dr. Foley took an indirect route toward his eventual career in medicine. He originally aspired to be an attorney, majored in English, and even worked as a cameraman for a local television station! However, in college, he took a part-time job as a home health aide for elderly and disabled patients, and it was then that he discovered his true passion as a care provider. Instead of going to law school as planned, he pursued a medical degree, and in his third year, he chose the OBGYN field as his specialty. 

For Dr. Foley, obstetrics and gynecology is the most unique and fulfilling field of medicine because it encompasses the full range of care, from primary care to surgery. It also offers the privilege of caring for patients throughout their entire lives, including some of the happiest moments—like welcoming a new baby into the world. One of the great joys of his line of work is taking a picture with the new arrival he has delivered. Sometimes the new baby’s older siblings were Dr. Foley deliveries too!

Outside of the OBGYN world, Dr. Foley enjoys spending time with his wife of 12 years and his three lovely daughters: Isabella, 9; Addison, 7; and Evelyn, 4. His hobbies include running, cooking, reading historical nonfiction, and tending to his vegetable garden.
