CT's Hard Surface Flooring Pros Explain How to Remove Laminate Flooring, Monroe, Connecticut

There’s no denying every home needs a flooring upgrade sooner or later. While your old laminate flooring probably looked great when it was first installed, the passage of time can cause excessive wear and tear on your floor—or it simply may have gone out of style. But removing that old laminate flooring can be tricky. As the hard surface flooring team at Courtesy Carpet in Monroe, CT, explains, there are a few key steps involved in this process.

Before getting started with this hard surface flooring task, it’s important to prepare the area where you’ll be working by moving furniture and other objects out of the room. In addition, you should use pliers to take out any nails from the trim pieces, as this will make it easier to remove the laminate flooring.

This refers to the areas where the laminate borders carpeting or another floor type. Use the flat edge of a pry bar to get under and lift the transition pieces. You can then begin removing the u-tracks these pieces are snapped into.

With this underway, the easiest way to complete the task is to methodically work your way across the room. By lifting boards 30 to 45 degrees with the pry bar, you can easily pull them away from other laminate pieces by hand. In many homes, there is a foam underlayment beneath the laminate. This should also be removed. Proceed row by row until the subfloor is completely exposed. Then, simply use an orbital sander or floor scraper to remove any remaining glue, and your room is ready for a new flooring installation!

Whether you need assistance with hard surface flooring or a carpet installation, the professional team at Courtesy Carpet will provide you with high-quality work. To learn more about their services, visit them online or call (203) 816-6311.
