Wellesley Municipal Light Plant

The Wellesley Municipal Light Plant (WMLP) provides electric service within the Town of Wellesley. To apply for service you must call or visit the WMLP. Below is the required information for both residential property owners and renters.

Residential Property Owners

If you are selling your property you or your agent need to call to schedule an appointment for a final reading of all of your meters. Electric, Water and Sewer meter reads will be needed for your passing of papers. The “final bill” will be ready for you to pick up and pay the next business day after the reading is completed. There is a $30.00 per meter fee for all final water readings.

Final Readings are scheduled in two windows of time. You may select either 8 AM – 10 AM or 12 PM – 2 PM.

Please have the following ready when you call to schedule the Final meter readings:

Property Address of Final Reading

The Date of the Final reading (keep in mind that the bill will not be ready until the next business day after the reading was completed)

The Date of the Closing

Forwarding Address of the Customer Moving Out

Name(s) of New Customers Moving In

Final readings will not be scheduled without all of the information. Please call one week ahead of the closing and only once the closing date is firm.

Residential Rentals and Commercial Property

When you move from your address you need to call to schedule an appointment for a final reading of your electric meter. Final Readings are scheduled in two windows of time. You may select either 8 AM – 10 AM or 12 PM – 2 PM.

What you will need when you call:

Property Address of Final Reading

The Date of the Final reading

Your Forwarding Address so we may return your security deposit to you

Name(s) of New Customer or of your Landlord, if that is who is taking over control of the account

If you are moving into a rental property please call the WMLP to ensure that service has been switched to your name and that service has been restored.

A completed Application of Utility Services and a security deposit are required of all commercial and rental properties. Reviewing the previous usage of the unit and adding the three highest months usage together will determine this deposit. You will receive a letter with the forms and the security deposit within 2 weeks of moving in to your new location. The security deposit will be billed to you along with your electric usage. Payment is due 30 days from the date of the bill issuance.

You may speak with any customer service representative at 781-235-7600, extension 3364 or 3365.
