Touro College Graduate School of Technology takes pride in its student success stories. Here they take the time to sit down with Ben Lamm, a 2014 graduate of Touro’s Database Systems program and current Java Developer for SiriusXM Radio:
How did you first hear about Touro GST?
Through word of mouth, and then I attended an open house event.
Why did you choose Touro for your continuing education?
Three main reasons: timing, prices, and the graduate school’s course offerings.
How did courses (computer science and others) from Touro help prepare you for this position?
The courses were very thorough and taught by industry experts. Although my position as a front-end developer doesn't require database management expertise, it has helped on occasion. However, some of the other courses-- such as Prof. Lunzer's strategic management of technology, and Prof. Muskopf's Project management--were amazingly relevant and have really helped me. Honestly, they would help anyone, wherever their career path takes them. I'm glad they were core classes because I probably would have skipped them otherwise.
Did Touro help you find this opportunity in the first place? If so, how?
YES! I owe it all to Robert Grosberg and GST's career services. I had an amazing job running operations at an online startup and had very little reason to leave, other than that my dream was to become a software developer. But that's all it was, a dream. Then Mr. Grosberg introduced me to FDM and got me my first interview. We stayed in touch the whole way through their program and through my first interview with SiriusXM. Throughout he offered encouragement and coaching.
What are you most excited about for your new role?
I look forward to working with world class software developers at a large company where they are leading the industry in innovation and talent.
Do you have any advice for current or incoming Touro students?
Stick it out and shoot for the stars!
