Nothing is better on a sweltering summer day then taking a nice, cool dip in your swimming pool. However, you may have found that the water in your pool occasionally becomes murky and uninviting. When that happens, The Pool Guys in Troy, MO, can help. With 30 years of experience in the industry and the honor of being the only company in the area to offer full pool service, you can trust their expertise.

Whether you have an above-ground or inground pool, cloudy water is caused by three factors:

  • Chemical Levels: Chemicals are necessary for the quality of your pool water. However, when levels of pH, alkalinity, and calcium are high or you have unbalanced chlorine levels, the pool water can become cloudy.
  • Environment: The environmental elements near your above-ground or inground pool can attribute to cloudiness. This includes dirt, dust, leaves, pollen, flowers, and anything else that can drift into the water.
  • Pool Filter: If your pool filter is malfunctioning or running less than eight to 10 hours every day, it can’t sufficiently keep the water clean.

Now that you know what can turn the water cloudy, here’s what The Pool Guys recommend using to clear it up:

  • Inground PoolFilter Cleaner: In addition to making sure your filter is working properly, about twice every season, use a filter cleaner to get rid of any scale and oily film that can build up.
  • pH Adjuster: High pH or alkalinity can be chemically remedied with either a pH Decreaser or pH Increaser. Pick up a pH test kit to check these levels regularly, even if the water is clear, so you can adjust them accordingly.
  • Water Clarifier: By clotting together small particles into larger ones, a water clarifier makes it easier for your pool filter to catch them. Weekly use is recommended.
  • Pool Floc: Instead of drawing small particles together, pool floc drags them down to the bottom, where it needs to be vacuumed out. Pool floc works quickly but you’ll lose a significant amount of water in the process.
