Many types of toilet papers including the wet, flushable wipes claim to be “septic safe” but are they really safe? Over the years, these types of toiletry items are becoming more and more popular but as a licensed, professional septic service, we are seeing more septic tanks being clogged up due to these items being flushed down the toilet.

The “flushable wipes” do not break down naturally. They can cause thousands of dollars of repair work to septic systems. Unlike toilet paper, which is made from tree pulp, the flushable wet wipes are made from synthetic materials. This synthetic material, unless separated out in a waste treatment facility, will cause your septic to back up. All flushable wipes should be disposed of in the trash can versus the toilet to prevent costly repairs and damage. If you have any questions regarding this or any other types of toilet paper that may not be safe for your septic system, please give us a call at Martin’s Septic Service. We service all of the Lake Country areas including Lake Sinclair and Lake Oconee. You can also visit our website and fill out our form and we will contact you!
