Traffic Alert: A Newon-Needham bridge replacement will impact Wellesley with increase in traffic.

The Town of Needham and the City of Newton will be closing the Central Avenue/Elliot Street Bridge on or about July 7, 2016.  This bridge links Newton (Elliot Street) and Needham (Central Ave) over the Charles River.  The bridge will be closed to both pedestrian and vehicular traffic until December of 2016.

Due to this project in Newton, there will be in an increase in traffic in Wellesley on Cedar Street, Hunnewell Street, Forest Street, and Wellesley Avenue during the construction.  However, there will be a significant increase in traffic on August 31, 2016, as this is the first day of school for both Needham and Wellesley.

Please keep this in mind as you return from summer vacations and plan travel accordingly when school begins on August 31.
