For the puppet performers at Penny and the Puppettes in Brooklyn, NY, entertainment is more than just a job. Led by Jane “Nini” Stratten and her daughters Merissa “Sessa” Morin and Chloe “Zenni” Morin, this colorful, interactive children’s entertainment troupe is the extension of a rich family history of puppetry. Beginning with Jane’s father, Bob Munstedt, the family’s passion for puppet creation and interactive performance continues to bring joy to audiences both young and old.
Bob Munstedt immigrated to America from Switzerland at age 13, when he was already accomplished at puppet creation and storytelling. He took his talents to TV, performing as a musician, comedian, and puppeteer under the moniker “Mr. Bob”. From the 1940s through the 1970s he appeared on numerous Boston-area television shows, and even took his talents overseas to entertain the troops in World War II. Now, his legacy continues with the interactive shows of his daughter’s and granddaughters’ Brooklyn theatre group.
