In our technology-dependent society, the majority of us spend a good amount of our time right in front of a computer. While this is not necessarily a bad thing, computer screens can put a lot of strain on our eyes and may even cause damage if we don’t practice the proper eye care.
To prevent this, the optometrists at Dolan Family Vision in Kalispell, MT, offer the following eye care tips to avoid eye strain:
- Keep Your Computer Screen At Least Two Feet Away From Your Face: Just like with televisions, having a glowing computer screen too close to your eyes can cause headaches, dizziness, and even nausea in a short period of time. To protect yourself, extend your screen away from you by half an arm’s length if it is a laptop and maybe even farther if you have a desktop. Doing so will prevent eye strain.
- Turn Down The Brightness Of Your Screen At Night: While your computer screen is meant to be bright during the day to prevent glare from the sun, keeping it at that same brightness when it is dark out can cause severe eye strain and possibly even insomnia. When the sun starts to go down, lower the brightness on your screen using the button on your keyboard and continue working as normal. You will start to notice a difference right away.
