Engineered Wood       Flooring

Solid Hardwood Floors

What Is It Made Of?

Engineered wood         flooring is comprised of multiple layers of wood fused together using high levels of heat and pressure.  Still 100% hardwood.

Solid hardwood is a single layer of hardwood.

How does it look? The advancements that have been made in engineered flooring make it appear very similar to a solid hardwood product. Solid hardwood looks like individual planks of wood in many different sizes, textures, colors and wood grains.
Can it be refinished? Contrary to popular opinion, there are now some engineered wood floor products that can be refinished. Solid hardwood can be sanded and refinished to different colors and re-sealed many times.

What Types Of Wood Are Available?

Like solid hardwood, there are literally hundreds of choices across many different wood species.

Any type of wood that can be used as flooring will be available; from cherry and ash to rosewood and teak, the sky's the limit on solid hardwood options.

When Should it be Used? Engineered wood floors are extremely versatile and can be used below grade in basements, or on concrete.  Their additional layers allow them to be “floated” (not affixed directly to a subfloor) for easy future removal, or even glued to a subfloor if required. Solid hardwood floors are installed directly to a wood subfloor and are best used in main living areas.
