Whether your teeth have shifted years after having your braces removed or you never had them in the first place, you may be wondering about the possible solutions for correcting crooked or misaligned teeth. Dr. Pete B. Higgins, the dentist at Four Corners Dental Group in Anchorage and Wasilla, Alaska, is here to explain two options: traditional braces and Invisalign.

Below are the key differences between the two possible solutions:

  • Comfort: With Invisalign, your dentist will provide a series of clear plastic trays that you’ll alternate to gradually shift your teeth into place. Traditional braces, on the other hand, cannot be removed and require metal brackets to be cemented to your teeth, with wires that go across the brackets. While both solutions may cause slight discomfort as a result of shifting teeth, braces are more likely to cause sores in the mouth as a result of the metal components.
  • dentistAppearance: Traditional braces are readily apparent due to the metal brackets. Invisalign, on the other hand, is much more discreet. The plastic trays your dentist will provide are clear and are thus virtually undetectable. If you’re seeking a solution that isn’t noticeable, Invisalign is the more suitable option.
  • Cost: Typically, Invisalign costs about the same as traditional braces. With that being said, Invisalign is considered a form of cosmetic dentistry, and as such, many insurance plans will cover the cost of treatment as they would other procedures performed by your dentist. Many patients find that although Invisalign could cost the same amount of money as traditional braces, the benefits outweigh the price.

Dr. Higgins offers Invisalign at the practice’s Wasilla location. To set up an appointment to determine if you’re a good candidate for Invisalign, call Four Corners Dental Group at (907) 376-2790. For more information, feel free to visit the family dentistry practice’s website.
