Not everyone is a mechanic, but every driver should at least know how to tell when they need professional auto repair and service. There are a few easy signs that your car may need service, and Dirk's Auto Repair in Lincoln, NE, is here to help you discover how to look for them.

Keep an eye out for the following signs of car trouble:auto repair and service

  • Weird Sounds: Cars make a variety of noises when systems go awry. Brake pads, in particular, make a piercing screech when they require replacing. If you hear any unusual noises, especially if they're associated with difficulty handling, accelerating, or braking, call for immediate auto repair and service.

  • Excessive Smoke: Is smoke emerging from under the hood or exhaust? Take a glance at the temperature gauge and pull over! Your engine needs to cool off before it's safe to continue driving. You should also be concerned if excessive black smoke comes out your exhaust pipe. If your engine overheats often or you're finding soot on your back bumper, it's time to call for auto repair and service.

  • Illuminated Or Flashing Check Engine Light: Get this diagnosed sooner rather than later, because there are hundreds of potential problems a check engine light can indicate. A stationary check engine light isn't urgent, but you do need immediate auto repair and service if the light starts blinking or flashing.

  • Leaks: Some of the most common leaks you might find in your car are coolant (usually bright green), transmission oil, engine oil, and brake fluid. Call for auto repair and services if you notice any of these fluids accumulating on your driveway or garage floor. Water dripping from your AC, however, is normal condensation and not necessarily indicative of a problem.

If you've noticed any of the above problems, give Dirk's Auto Repair a call for an appointment at (402) 466-6010. They're proud to have served Lincoln, NE, since 1995 and look forward to helping you, too. For more information, visit your local auto repair shop's website.
