I’m very appreciative of the staff at Liberty Veterinary Hospital. They helped me debunk these spay and neuter myths. Did you know that spaying or neutering will not cause your pet to become over weight? Lack of exercise and overfeeding will cause your pet to pack on the extra LB’S (pounds) - not having the surgery performed. I assure you that your loved one will remain fit and trim as long as you continue to provide exercise and monitor their food intake. Neutering as soon as possible will decrease the level of testosterone, thus preventing the dominance effect; this is not a myth! If we wait to neuter our male companions, it increases the chance for them to learn inappropriate behaviors and it will become a habit that is not easy to break. In other words, DON’T WAIT!

Spaying and neutering your pets is also highly cost effective from an owner’s perspective.The costs of your pets spay or neuter surgery is far less than the cost of having and caring for a litter; just some food for thought.

Another question that is frequently asked is when to have it done? The doctors at Liberty Veterinary Hospital recommended to neuter or spay after four months of age for our dogs. For toy dog breeds, it is recommended to wait until approximately 6 months of age.  For cats they recommend to wait until they are at least 4 pounds or above in body weight.I am very thankful for the doctors and staff at Liberty Veterinary Hospital for the time and dedication they put in to educating their clients. I really feel like I’m at home upon entering the building. I know the staff will never lead me down the wrong path especially on an important topic such as SPAY AND NEUTER.
