Shopping for replacement vinyl windows can be, well... confusing.  Everyone company says their window is the best window at the best price.  But how can you know for sure?

There are three main things to focus on when shopping for new windows:

  1. Quality of the Window
  2. Quality of the Service
  3. Price

Looking at the quality of the window, there are a few things to consider.  We like to say that there are six (6) main window ratings to look at:

  • Air Infilitration
  • Whole window U-Factor
  • Whole window R-Rating
  • Design Pressure (DP)
  • Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC)
  • Condensation Resistance

Some of these ratings are related to each other.  But taken as a whole, these values give a great indication about the strength, resiliency, and energy efficiency of the window.

Next, take a look at the service history of the company who's installing the windows.  Have they been in business for a while?  What about their reviews on Google, Angie's List, or the BBB?  Do they offer any additional labor warranty, and do you expect the business to still be around in the future to honor it?

Finally, you need to look at the price, and compare the price to the first two factors, window quality and service.  Buying a very cheap window probably means you're sacrificing quality and/or service.  But you can also over-spend by paying to much for a mediocre window.

The best course of action is to take your time, and do your research.  Choose a Cincinnati window company you're comfortable to do business with, and don't allow yourself to be pressured into buying until you are confident in your decision.
