Did you know that March is Science Month? To celebrate science in all its wonderment, the early childhood specialists at Pumpkin Preschool in Fairfield, CT, suggest making science fun and educational for your kids at home. You can accomplish this by coming up with some interactive experiments of your own that kids will find enjoyable while learning from them as well.

If you don't know where to start, check out these easy science experiments to do with your kids, brought to you by the best early childhood educational center in Fairfield County:

  • Volcano Explosion: For something quick and easy, head to the supermarket and grab a container of baking soda and a jug of vinegar. Head back to the house and help your kids build a volcano in the ground with a deep hole in the middle. Next, pour in the baking soda and the vinegar — then look out! For some added flair, add a few drops of red food coloring into the mix.
  • early childhoodFeed The Yeast: Not all science experiments have to take place outside. In fact, there's a place indoors where science occurs every single day — the kitchen! Invite your little ones into the cooking area to bake some bread. Let them use their hands and get dirty. After kneading the dough and letting it rise, explain to your children how yeast eats sugar and creates carbon dioxide to shape some of our favorite breads.
  • Gravity Drop: Perhaps the easiest science activity of all is the gravity drop. First, go outside and ask your kids and their friends to collect items of various weights and sizes from around the yard. Once they have their stockpile, explain the nature of gravity, and don't forget to mention how heavier items fall faster than lighter objects. Next, ask them to drop their found objects from their position and watch as the heavier items fall faster than the lighter ones. It's very simple, but also highly educational!

All throughout Science Month, the child care providers at Pumpkin Preschool will be celebrating by playing games like these with their students.
