By DEBORAH BROWN | Published: Chicago City Limits, Wellesley Rotary ClubThe Wellesley Rotary Club, in partnership with Wellesley College’s theater department andWellesley Repertory Theatre, is bringing comedy improv group Chicago City Limits to Alumnae Hall at Wellesley College on March 11 and 12 to raise funds for the Rotary Club’s major projects: adolescent emotional wellness, tutoring for underserved youth residing in Wellesley, and Stop Hunger Now.

Chicago City Limits is New York City’s longest-running comedy-improv theater and will likely sell out, so click here for information on how to get tickets, or head over to the Roche Bros. service desk to buy them in person. The New York Daily News calls the show “Hillarious,” and The New York Times says it’s “ingenious and very, very funny,” with a cast of “the perfect masters of improvisation.” This critically acclaimed national touring company performs at colleges and regional theaters throughout the country.

This major fundraiser for The Rotary Club will allow the club to continue its important service projects:

Emotional Wellness Project – A peer leadership program designed to prevent depression in high school students, promote general good health, and help students learn how to cope with bullying and anxiety. Through the project, which has trained over 30 mentors, they learn:

  • Self-awareness (yoga, muscle relaxation, visual imagery, etc.)
  • Communication (help-seeking)
  • Problem solving and cognitive flexibility
  • Connectedness (recognizing what we have in common vs isolation)

Tutoring program – Program provides after school academic help twice weekly to low-income families living in subsidized housing in Wellesley.

Stop Hunger Now – The club has packaged and distributed 20,000 meals to populations in distress from natural or human caused disasters.

Sapling packaging – With the help of Wellesley 4th and 5th graders, the club plants over 400 tree saplings each Arbor Day to help keep our community green.

Youth Programs – Rotary Youth Leadership Program and short-term, international student exchange opportunities for local high school students.
