From Einstein to Spielberg: Touro College Guides Narayan Malla to His Dream Career, Manhattan, New York

Our dreams and aspirations can take us far, uprooting us from our place of birth and spiriting us towards the person we wish to become. For Narayan Malla, a graduate student of Touro College Graduate School of Technology, this journey transported him from his hometown of Bhaktapur, Nepal to New York City in pursuit of a higher education.

Although he originally came to the United States to study Physics like his idol Albert Einstein, Narayan discovered his true passion when he bought Final Cut Pro in 2006. He spent his childhood making street plays and creating short films with friends. This early fascination with theatric arts fueled Narayan's desire to add to his video editing and cinematic skills. Narayan completed a BS degree in Data Communications at New York School for Career and Applied Science and a Digital Multimedia Arts (DMX) Certification at Touro College.

Narayan's dedication to learning post-production for movies and music at Touro College earned him a perfect 4.0 GPA. He decided to continue towards his Master’s Degree in Web & Multimedia Design at the Touro Graduate School of Technology and begin his own production company, called SAMLAP Productions.

Within this company, Narayan Malla filmed, edited, and directed a number of short films, all with the help of his friends and the generosity of crowd funders. His list of works include the short English language horror movie “The Apartment,” “Paath,” and “Out of the Fire.” Narayan draws his inspiration for making his movies from his Nepalese heritage, struggle acclimating to New York culture, appreciation of cultural diversity, and his aspirations of becoming a famous genre-defining director in Nepal.

Narayan’s exceptional drive to succeed in his chosen field was guided every step of the way by the experienced professors and mentors of Touro College. With a Master’s Degree in the most relevant paths of the technology marketplace, including Information Systems, Web & Multimedia Design, and Instructional Technology, Touro College Graduate School of Technology provides a tangible hands-on education that positions students for industry leadership.
