Innovative Technology and Education Events: Touro College, Manhattan, New York

As a leading presence in New York City’s world of continuing education, Touro College Graduate School of Technology offers new courses and innovative teaching methods to excite, educate and inspire students. On May 22, Touro’s WMM 604 course hosted Edutainment Tonight!

Edutainment Tonight served as an educational and entertaining event in place of the course's final. In this event the professor Mira Scharf presented students with a testing opportunity to showcase inventions that would better the educational experience. As a part of the exam, apps and tutorials, eBooks, films and websites were featured that have been specially designed to reflect the study of technology at Touro.

Apps and Tutorials:

Included in the event was Leia Calandria’s BAM IQ quiz, an app designed as a quiz to educate and entertain its users about the rich history at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Narayan Malla created a new free app called Urja, available for download on iTunes. By using this app, purchasers can learn the Nepali alphabet from the comfort of their own iPad or iPhone. And Dmitry Vishnevskiy created downloadable SWF colorful Photoshop tutorials specially aimed for the high school market.

eBooks:

Also included was Tobi Glazer's project, entitled The Three Little Pigs. As an interactive enhanced ebook designed under the additional advisement of a speech therapist, the book is meant to be a tool for speech therapists and parents alike, enhancing their children's speaking and cognition skills. Chava Drummond created an enhanced ebook all about guinea pigs.

Films:

Maury Lefkowitz’s film called A Day in the Life of Type was presented, aiming toward viewer awareness of the impact that type and font styles have on their daily lives, and to remind young artists of the powerful impact that they can make with good use of type. Phil Washington and Mike Zavrazhin created a wonderful educational animated short children's film about bullying.

Websites:

Sam Samaroo created a website that was showcased at the event, meant to help prepare new runners. Her design and general approach to the content is light, clear and inspiring. A Kids Only Page was also featured as a website created by Gurban Haydarov. The site has offers a collection of educational games, animation and other resources, including a multiple-choice quiz that is just for kids and educationally-based.

The Edutainment Tonight event is just one of the occasions that Touro College Graduate School of Technology has featured, and continues to feature, as a top-of-the-line technology, business and medical-based college. As the college continues to expand and evolve, new students are welcomed to enroll and take advantage of a quality education that will open doors to a new future.
