On Monday, October 28th, guest speaker Roxie Munro visited Touro College Graduate School
of Technology (GST) to speak to Master of Arts in Web & Multimedia Design students currently enrolled in the Entertainment and Education Design course. As a part of their larger curriculum, students had the opportunity to hear Munro speak about her experience as an award-winning interactive app designer, author, and illustrator of (primarily non-fiction) children’s books.
Entertainment and Education Design students have been studying user interfaces, immediate feedback mechanisms, and dynamic scoring systems that aid a range of online storytelling and immersive experiences all semester long. In this course, the Master of Arts students design memorable products that enable users to accomplish learning objectives and combine achievable rewards with a sense of discovery. Munro’s breadth of work in this field brought real world success under the microscope of technology education for an afternoon.
Munro’s professional knowledge of the latest industry trends supplemented the curriculum excellently. Students heard first-hand about Munro’s animated interactive game “Roxie’s a-MAZE-ing Vacation Adventure” and “Roxie’s Doors,” an animated interactive 3-D children’s app for the iPad, developed in 2011. Her most recent children’s book, Slithery Snakes was published earlier this year. Over the course of her prolific career, Munro has authored and illustrated more than 35 children’s books and two interactive apps for the iPad and iPhone.
Her talk was an invaluable experience for the graduate school’s Web and Multimedia Design students. Touro College GST’s masters programs educate well-rounded specialists through collaborative learning and challenging project-based problem solving courses. Roxie Munro’s visit to Touro College Graduate School of Technology offered real world examples of successful, educational, and interactive multimedia design from one of the industry’s leading professionals.
