Touro College Graduate School of Technology (GST) holds periodic seminars and conferences to keep students and professionals abreast of the industry’s latest developments and tools. One such series includes the graduate school’s One Day Institutes, which consist of all-day educational conferences with industry leaders and Touro GST professors. Past institutes include Mobile App Development, and most recently, the “Taking Advantage of Social Media & Photography” conference on February 19th. The conference was a massive success, and a great deal was learned by
the enthusiastic group who turned out.
Here is a brief recap for those of you who were not able to attend:
At the graduate school’s one day winter institute on photography and social media, Social Reputation Manager Darrah Raneri of LocalVox Media, Inc. and professor Jesse Epstein, Chair of Touro GST’s Web and Multimedia Design Master’s program split the day in half.
In the morning, Darrah spoke to participants about how to use Facebook and Twitter to market themselves and their companies, from creating editorial content calendars to budgeting Facebook advertising. The group of students, teachers, and IT web and technology experts in attendance were taken aback at how much they learned in just a few hours. During the latter portion of the day, Jesse Epstein presented on how to tell stories through photographs, set up visually appealing shots, use lighting to your advantage, and much more. Professor Epstein left time to allow participants to test their new knowledge and techniques by taking their own photographs on-site.
The best part about the one day institute at Touro GST is that you did not have to be an expert to attend. In fact, attendees did not even need to know how to use social networks. It is best to think of the seminar as an accelerated hands-on learning experience.
