Every now and again, a simple yet elegant car hits the market and it becomes an instant hit. When its a few years old, if it's still admired, it becomes a classic. Whether it's a vintage Mustang, Jaguar, or Mercedes, classic cars don't get old, they just get better. If you own a classic car, it's important to keep it in tip-top condition, so you can showcase it at the next vintage car show from Charlotte AutoFair Produced by Hornet’s Nest. Many car owner’s believe that in order to keep a classic car in great condition it must be out of use, but this is simply not true. Your classic car should be road-ready, but not without proper maintenance and storage.

Here are three tips from Charlotte AutoFair Produced by Hornet’s Nest.

  • Detail Your Car Thoroughly. Remember to detail your car at least once a year. A good washing to eliminate dirt and grime from the top and bottom is also essential to preserving the look and usability of your classic car. Do not buff chrome surfaces until you remove your car from storage (if it is in storage), and be sure to lubricate all the rubber parts and clean upholstery inside.
  • Keep It Away From Rodents in Storage. One of the most destructive things that you can do to your car is leave it in a storage area where there are rats and mice. These rodents are detrimental to the longevity of classic cars because they chew up upholstery and insulation. They can also chew on wiring harnesses, which will not be apparent until there is a fire or smoke forms behind the dash.
  • Stay Clear of Road Salt. The reaction between sodium chloride and steel creates iron oxide, and therefore rust, which every car owner knows is no good for your car. Since the damage is also done fairly quickly, try your best to avoid driving on wet, salty roads. These roads will give your classic car an ugly coating of surface rust on anything that is not protected, which may be hard to remove.

If you own a classic car, or simply have a love for all things classic, every year Charlotte AutoFair Produced by Hornet’s Nest Region hosts vintage car shows. Stay tuned for the next automobile show this fall, and be sure to reserve your spot to the biggest collection of antique cars around!
