It's already the second week of February, and that means that Valentine's Day is just around the corner. Though adults tend to be focused on flowers, chocolates, and romance, Valentine's Day is also a fun time for children to show their love. The talented teachers at Imagination Childcare Academy in Rochester, NY, have a slew of kid-friendly ideas for Valentine's Day.

Even preschool children can get in on the action with some fun, developmentally appropriate Valentine's Day activities. They're trained to work with the youngest children, so they know just what preschool children can handle exactly what sparks their interests. Here are some of their favorite suggestions to make Valentine's Day fun for your child:

  • Torn Paper Valentines: Preschool children haven't fully developed their fine motor skills yet, so sitting out hearts can be challenging. Instead, let your child tear scrap construction paper (colored tissue paper, wrapping paper, or construction paper are all great choices) into small squares. You can draw a big heart and then, have your child glue the paper scraps in the heart to make a colorful mosaic.
  • Sweets For The Sweet: Who says a Valentine has to be made of paper? Preschool children love to help in the kitchen, so set aside some time to make a batch of cupcakes. Your child can decorate them with conversation hearts or red and pink sprinkles for delicious, one-of-a-kind creations to share with friends and family.
  • Love Songs: Children love to express themselves with music, so choose a favorite song about love to teach them. Oldies but goodies like Sam Cooke's "Cupid" or the Beatles' "Love Me Do" are upbeat choices that kids enjoy.

The teachers at Imagination Childcare Academy love making the holidays fun for their students, and they offer more than just daycare.
