Here are three tips to help you get organized. Perhaps you have been busy in January and have purged your clothes, toys and stuff. Now it is time to deal with what is left!

  1. Closets: At Pinnacle, when our sellers are preparing their homes for sale, we advise them to empty out closets so they are only half full. The reason is twofold: prospective buyers want to be able to see what they are getting, AND they want to believe that there is sufficient room for their stuff.
  2. Kitchen: Think about how you live. Lots of snacks needed for hungry kids? Are you a baker? Create zones: a grab ‘n go snack zone, plus a staples zone. For snacks, throw out bulky packaging and use a few baskets as a catchall for individually wrapped snacks. For baking, keep all your staples together. Try securing a pad/pen to the wall in an accessible spot so you can add to your shopping list on the go. (There are a number of apps for this on your smartphone too.) I keep a list on the side of the fridge with a marker attached. Then when I inevitably forget the list, my high tech solution is to hope someone is home to text me a pic!
  3. Mudroom: A dear Wellesley friend moved here from Florida fifteen years ago and still marvels at how many types of coats the well-dressed New Englander needs. I had never given it much thought, but she is right! Rain, sleet, snow, business, casual, workout, the list goes on and on! Same for footwear! Remember to pack away out of season items. That will definitely free up space and remove clutter.
