Oahu Experts List 3 Ways to Make Sure Your Surfboard is Securely Positioned on Your Roof Rack, Honolulu, Hawaii

Go Bananas Watersports is Honolulu and Aiea’s premier renter and seller of high-quality stand-up paddle boards, kayaks, canoes, and roof racks for all of your outdoor adventures. Their team of sales associates is passionate about helping everyone get out and enjoy the natural beauty of Oahu through exciting physical activity.

While Go Bananas Watersports doesn’t actually sell surfboards, they do sell multi-use roof racks that can be used to safely transport anything from a kayak to a longboard.

If you’re gearing up for a day at the beach, be sure to check out these three tips for secure surfboard transportation:

  • Get A High-Quality Roof Rack & Rack Pads: There are basically two types of racks that you can use. The first is a soft rack, which is ideal if you don’t have any type of rack already on the roof of your vehicle. A hard rack is appropriate if you have aftermarket racks on your car already. No matter what type of roof rack you choose, rack pads are essential, because they keep your board wax from getting on your car and stop the rack from damaging your board.
  • Roof RackRead The Directions: It might sound obvious, but you’d be surprised at how often people damage their boards (or their cars) because they were in a rush and didn’t read the instruction manual. In addition to written instructions, there are lots of videos online that show people using different models of soft and hard roof racks.
  • Test It: Before you hit the highway, make sure your board is really secure. Try a couple of quick stops on your residential street or in your driveway to make sure everything is solid. If you’re nervous and you feel like you haven’t secured your board properly, just drive over to Go Bananas Watersports. They’ll be happy to give you a few pointers.
