Triple pane windows offer many benefits that you just can't get with a double pane window.  But is it really worth getting?  Certainly, if your favorite Cincinnati window company is offering a free upgrade to triple pane, it's well worth it!  But what are the benefits?

Triple pane windows offer two different sections of insulating air.  Standard is the argon fill.  You can upgrade to krypton filled glass if you wish, but sometimes this upgrade is not worth the cost.  

Your triple pane replacement windows from Windows Plus will also come with two separate layers of low-e coating.  "Low-e" stands for low-emissivity.  Basically, this relates to the ability to reflect radiant (thermal) energy.  In the summer, this keeps hot air out.  In the winter, this keeps warm air in.  

All triple pane windows are not equal.  Make sure the glass is argon filled, with double low-e coatings on two separate glass panes.  Then check the U-factors.  Good triple pane should be at or below 0.20 U-factor.
