With proper care and attention, your vehicle's tires can last you up to a decade. The life expectancy of your tires will have a lot to do with where you live and how you drive, but regardless of the circumstances, there are steps you can take to make your tires last longer. As hosts of the most popular vintage car show in North Carolina, the experts at the Charlotte AutoFair want to give you the guidance you need to properly care for your vehicle.

They offer this advice regarding tires:

  • Inspect Your Tires Each Month: Sun exposure and underinflation can cause cracks in the sidewall, so keep an eye out for this, as these cracks can eventually cause blowouts. You'll also want to monitor tread depth. If you can insert a quarter into the tread and not see the crown of Washington's head, you have nothing to worry about. If Washington's head is visible, it's time for a replacement.
  • Keep Up With Inflation: Tires can lose as much as 1 psi each month, and changes in weather can cause even greater shifts. While many modern vehicles feature tire pressure monitoring systems, these systems aren't sensitive enough to call attention to these small changes. To get the best fuel economy on your vehicle and extend the life of your tires, it's recommended that you check the pressure each month using a good tire pressure gauge.
