The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center, Non-Profit Organizations, Services, New York, New York

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center was established in 1983 to serve New York City’s LGBT community. They offer a comprehensive array of services, programming, and a nurturing community to all who seek it. From quality health and wellness programs, to arts and entertainment, The Center welcomes more than 300,000 visitors to their West Village location every year.

When it opened, the community center filled a dearth of safe space for LGBT individuals to gather with like-minded people of all ages for support, cultural programming, as well as healthcare services. It is an infrastructure designed to foster an activist spirit in support of individuals in crisis. For people living with HIV and AIDS, survivors of physical attacks, as well as individuals struggling with substance abuse and mental health challenges, The Center has become a safe space where they can find such holistic services such as Center Recovery, a licensed, medically supervised intensive outpatient substance abuse and dependence treatment program.

The range of programming and services at The Center are extensive, but some of the foremost support systems include:

  • Youth Services
  • Center Cultural Programs
  • Center Families
  • NYC’s Largest LGBT Lending Library

Over the years, The Center has expanded and improved with several renovations designed to create a more accessible meeting space for the LGBT community to come together in an ongoing effort to confront an onslaught of political, social, and personal challenges. The reach of The Center’s support infrastructure is practically limitless. Whether you’re looking for gay counseling, LGBT parenting support, gay couples therapy, addiction help, or free HIV testing, The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center in the West Village works tirelessly in their mission to provide life-changing and life-saving services and activities for individuals of all ages.
