Authentic, delicious soul food has found its way in downtown Dayton through Marilyn’s Grill. A relatively new restaurant, which opened its doors in November of 2015, Marilyn’s has been garnering rave reviews from both fans of soul food and first-time foodies in the area.

In less than a year since it commenced operations, they have been getting a steady stream of customers and loyal patrons because of their flavor-packed menu, warm ambiance, and excellent service. The soul food restaurant, which initially started on Gettysburg Avenue, eventually moved to a first-floor space building in the Barclay Building on the corner of First and Main Street. Inspired by his mother, the owner Albert Smith, says the concept of Marilyn’s began 11 years ago when he decided to name the Southern-style cuisine restaurant in her honor.

Locals and visitors can expect beautiful flavors on the menu every day. For instance, cheese steak day offers various takes on this popular item, including regular beef, chicken, and turkey. Health conscious soul food lovers can also enjoy Marilyn’s vegetarian and gluten-free options.

The diverse selection of daily specials includes dishes such as Bourbon Chicken Rice, Garlic Parmesan Wings and Fries, and Butter Burger Basket. Try their popular BBQ Ribs and Grilled Wings, which are dipped into Marilyn’s special sauce and served with homemade potato salad and Hawaiian Rolls.
