At Liscombe Tree Service in Saint Charles, MO, we are dedicated to providing you with affordable tree care and tree removal. When it comes to stump grinding, our arborists are trained in the latest techniques and know-how to handle even the most difficult projects.

So, how does stump grinding work? Below, we explain the process.

  • Remove Rocks: First, all of the rocks must be removed from the base of the tree stump. This step is extremely important because if rocks are left around the stump, the stump grinding machine's teeth can get damaged.
  • Flush Cut The Stump: Using a chain saw, we flush cut the stump. You want the stump to be as close to the ground as possible because it will speed up the next step, which is grinding.
  • Grind The Stump: Because you flushed cut the stump, this part will be simple. Slowly lower the grinder wheel into the stump. Then, use the hydraulic lever to clear the wood by swinging it from side to side. When you've dug to about four inches, lift the wheel, move the machine a few inches forward, and repeat the grinding process.
  • Fill The Crater: Once you've finished grinding the stump, fill the hole with screened topsoil. Then rake the soil, spread some grass seeds, and then rake the seeds into the soil. To finish, cover the seeds with mulch hay.
