Porter Guertin, located in Cincinnati, OH and serving the Cincinnati, northern Kentucky, or Indiana areas, has a comprehensive understanding of all things plating, providing metal finishing services that include nickel coating, electroless nickel plating services, and hard chrome plating.

Hard chrome plating, also called hard chromium plating, is a heavy coating that is used for resistance to damage from normal usage, oily smoothness, and oil retention. You will find hard chrome plating on automobile and airplane parts, such as auto engines, drive trains, suspension systems, motor shafts, and aircraft landing gears. It is not necessarily a harder metal than others, but its thickness allows for sturdiness and durability, as opposed to decorative plating, which is fragile and breaks easily. It appears metallic, but is not the same consistency as what you might see on furniture or a license plate frame.

The phases of this type of plating consist of a stripping process, which degreases and removes dirt and other items that affect the metal, sanding and polishing, and holding plates in their proper tanks then applying plating. The process varies depending on the underlying layers of the material.

Porter Guertin has a staff of experience technicians who hold memberships with the National Association of Metal Finishers and Strategic Goals Program. Most have been with the company for more than 15 years and stay current on best practices in their industry. They pride themselves on doing their jobs efficiently and safely while providing excellent customer service and an eye for detail.
