Points Suspension

Speeding tickets are moving violations that can lead to a suspension or revocation of your driver’s license. Convictions for moving violations are reported to the Missouri Department of Revenue (DOR), which assigns points to each conviction and adds those points to your driving record. Too many points on your driving record may cause a suspension or revocation of your driver’s license and most likely an increase in your car insurance rates.

Keeping Points From Appearing On Your Driving Record

You may be able to keep points off your driving record if you hire an attorney to negotiate a plea bargain with the court to have your speeding ticket reduced to a non-moving violation. If your ticket is reduced to a non-moving violation, the ticket will not be reported to the DOR, and no points will be added to your driving record, because only moving violations are reported on your driving record.

After your speeding ticket is reduced to a non-moving, no-point infraction, you will likely have to pay a fine (which may be a little higher cost than the original fine) plus court costs, however no points will be added to your Missouri driving record. In most cases, you won’t have to appear in court or even come to our office—we can take care of your ticket by email, fax (636-896-4024), regular mail, text or telephone (636-896-4020).

Out-of-State Drivers With Missouri Traffic Issues or Tickets

Tickets that you receive in other states will be reported to your home state. If Missouri is your home state and you receive a ticket in another state, that other state will report the ticket to Missouri. Then, Missouri will treat the ticket as if you received it in Missouri and will add points to your driving record.

Out-of-state drivers who receive a Missouri speeding ticket can hire a Missouri-licensed attorney to get their ticket reduced to a non-moving, no-point infraction, so nothing will be reported on their driving record in their home state.
