How many times have you said to yourself I am tired of renting – but – the time is not right, my job is not sure, I need a better car, interest rates are going up, I don’t have a large enough down payment – and the worst of all – I am saving up so I can pay cash!
I can relate to this kind of thinking, as I hear it all the time. But reality is there is never a better time to buy. Interest rates are historically low and a house payment is way less than rent!It is time to think about the future and the equity you can build in a house plus the year to year rise in the price of homes.
My husband and I bought our first home just out of the military using his VA eligibility with $0 down and we were well on the way to building up equity.
Our 1st house cost $27,500, sold it 3 years later for $37,500. House # 2 cost $45,000.00, sold it 3 years later for $78,000.00. #3 cost $85,000.00 (new). Unfortunately, it was on 18 acres and burned, so we did not sell that one! (ugh :(!! ) #4 cost $42,000.00, sold it 8 years later for $65,000.# 5 cost $142,500 (new) and 8 years later it sold for $210,000! All these homes were in different parts of the country where prices varied greatly.
If I had waited for the right time to buy and continued to rent all I would have had to leave to my children would be a lot of rent receipts.
