Severe thunderstorms can often produce large hail, and upon striking your roof, it leaves a bruise or a puncture mark in the shingle. This knocks the asphalt granules away from the shingle leaving the underside matting exposed. As the suns UV ray's burn the tar matting it exposes the underlying felt and wood decking over time. The rai will then find its way through these punctures into the cracks f the decking to create leaks and failures in the roofing system. Ultimately, this creates interior water stains, and a much larger problem to resolve than the roof replacement.
