Unlike people, pets can't let us know when they aren't feeling well. Sure, we can tell when our pet might be acting differently, but many times pets can be hurt or sick without us knowing. The veterinarians at Waipio Pet Clinic are Oahu's trusted pet hospital. With over 75 years of combined experience, they offer residents trusted care and veterinary medicine.

Whether you're worried about dog care or something affecting your cat's health, Waipio Pet Clinic in Waipahu can help. Aside from bringing your pets in for annual checkups, the vets are believers in preventative care. They wanted to take an opportunity to tell dog and cat owners (and lovers!) about some activities you can do to keep your best friends healthy and happy:

  • Dogs

Dogs need at least 30 minutes of exercise twice a day. This means they need to be walked, or be taken to a local dog park to run. And if your dog likes to swim, encourage that instinct. Fetch and tug-of-war are also beneficial in that they not only provide exercise, but they teach your pet impulse control as well. A food-stuffed puzzle toy or a tasty chew toy is a great way to keep your dog off the couch and active while you're out of the house.

  • Cats

Toy mice, small balls, and furry toys are great ways to play chase and fetch games with your cat. They need exercise too. Cats can learn simple commands, so maybe you can try teaching it how to sit up, come when its name is called, or how to roll over. And while you're not home, give your cat things to do like a paper bag or box to explore, or even put on some cat videos for your pet to watch.

Aside from these activities for your pets, give them healthy food, fresh water, and a check-up with a veterinarian's office like Waipio Pet Clinic at least once a year. For more information about the clinic's services, visit the website, or give the staff a call at (808) 676-2205 to schedule an appointment if your pet is already under the weather.
