When you’re in the midst of a move, you don’t want to deal with running out of space in your trailer or driving a massive truck with way more space than you need. Fortunately, determining what size U-Haul® rental you need is easy if you know how to compare your options. Use the guide below to make sure you reserve the right truck.

Common U-Haul Rental Sizes

1. Small Trailer

You’ll need a vehicle to haul a small cargo trailer. It is eight feet long and four feet high. This is good for smaller items, especially if you need to haul only a few pieces of furniture. It has a low rear deck, which makes it easy to load heavier items such as recliners. If you need more vertical space, they have trailers 5 feet in height as well.

2. 10-Foot Truck

The 10-foot truck is the smallest moving truck available. This is a good choice for moving a one- or two-bedroom home, and it has a low dock for easy loading. It has seats for two adults in the front; the larger 15-foot truck has seating for three people.

The 17-foot truck is best for moving a two- to three-bedroom home. It can hold up to 5,930 pounds of items. The cab has room for three people. Those embarking on a long-distance trip with three people may prefer the slightly larger 20-foot truck since it has comfortable seating for everyone in the cab.

4. 26-Foot Truck

The 26-foot truck is the largest truck rental available to you. It’s best for four-bedroom homes or larger, and it can tow a trailer behind it if you need extra space. The vehicle can hold up to 7,400 pounds and has comfortable seating for three.
