When you hear Touro College Graduate School of Technology in New York, NY, you might think of top-notch app developers and world-class web programmers. But recent graduate Oksana Saulenko thinks differently – her thesis at this premier technology school consisted of a photography project that shed light on the people of her home country: Ukraine.
Saulenko, who immigrated to the United States in 1998, formerly attended art college in her native country. By combining her eye for natural beauty with her technological skill, she was able to create this inspiring collection of photos that feature landscapes, portraits, and buildings from her homeland.
“I love my new country with all of my heart,” she said in the introduction to her thesis book, “it has given me a lot, including a new education with new technology.”
Saulenko travelled to two Ukranian towns to shoot photo and video for her thesis, entitled "Beautiful Ukraine": Kiev and Dzembroney. Some of her favorite photos from the collection feature Andrew’s Church, which was built in the mid-1700’s and is one of the
country’s most famous places of worship. The church is home to sculptures, carvings, and breathtaking color schemes. If you didn’t have the chance to view these telling photos at the gallery hanging in the graduate school’s computer lab, you can still view her entire thesis photo book here.
