You know you can count on CrossFit® to transform both your mind and your body. At CrossFit Hawaii Honolulu, expert trainers understand the importance of incorporating squats into your workout. Not only does squatting tone muscle, but mastering different styles of squats will aid with hip extension, which will help you reach your full athletic potential. Below you can find three different types of squats that are guaranteed to benefit your CrossFit® training:

The Front Squat: Grab the barbell with a grip slightly wider than the with of your shoulders, then bring your elbows under the bar so they are pointing forward. Here, the barbell rests in front of you, across your shoulders. As you squat, keep your chest up, place your weight in your heels, and keep both elbows pointed forward.

The front squat strengthens the glutes and hamstrings while placing more emphasis on the quads and upper back.

The Overhead Squat: Press the barbell overhead and then perform a squat. It is very important that you keep your center of gravity here. Know that with overhead squats, shoulder mobility is essential. If you have trouble pressing the barbell overhead because of tight shoulders, then widen your grip.

This squat aids with balance, muscle control, and hip and shoulder mobility.

The Zercher Squat: First, deadlift the barbell off the floor. Then set it on your thighs, hook your elbows under the bar and lift up. If deadlifting isn't for you, then place the barbell just lower than your sternum. Next, bend your elbows at your side and place the barbell in the crook of your arms. Next, squat until the bar touches your thighs.

This squat focuses on torso and core strength and is excellent for developing a strong upper back.

The professional trainers at CrossFit Hawaii Honolulu know just how powerful squats can be. CrossFit® classes will do amazing things for your body and mind. By taking the time to incorporate various squats into your workout, you can take your CrossFit® training to the next level.
