Safety in the home is a concern as we grow older and losing the use of our stairs can significantly limit the access to the full use of our residence.  There are a few products on the market that can help us to safely navigate our stair wells.  The first is installing an elevator but this option is normally out of the question because of the major construction it usually entails not to mention the high cost.

The second, and more economical option, is to have a stair lift installed.  A straight stairwell will typically run you $3,000 to $4,000 installed and takes about three to four hours to install.  An 'L' or 'U' shaped stair well would have to be custom measured and quoted.

Most insurance policies do not pay for stair lifts but Lincoln Mobility has a few options for funding you may not have thought about.
