While it may be easy to ignore the roof over your head, it’s less easy to do so when that roof has sprung a leak! The best time to find out you need a roofing estimate is before there’s a major problem. With over 34 years of experience, no one knows roof maintenance like Forest Park Roofing in Cincinnati. This family-owned roofing company knows how to keep your roof and siding in excellent condition, and here they'd like to share a few tips on how to spot roof wear and tear.

The National Roofing Contractors Association recommends doing a roof inspection every spring and fall, starting inside in the attic; but it’s also a good idea to perform a quick check after major storms. Note any places you see the roof or the roof deck sagging, and any signs of water damage or roof leaks such as dark spots and trails. Also, any outside light showing through the roof is a pretty clear indicator that it’s time to contact your roofing company!

Next, check the outside gutters for shingle granules (which resemble sand), as they can indicate advanced roof wear. The exterior of the roof should be scanned for missing shingles, damaged flashing, or any curling, blistering, buckling, rotting or mold growth. Check for loose material or wear around all vents, pipes, or chimneys, and give the drainage, gutters and downspouts a once over to make sure they’re firmly secured in place.
