CityMD’s Urgent Care Center Offers Top Tips on Sports Safety this Spring, Oyster Bay, New York

Every year, as winter finally ends and spring reappears, our urgent care center is bustling with patients coming in and complaining of a recent sports injury. Whether you’re participating in Little League or taking part in an adults-only tournament, an accident can happen to anyone. At CityMD, we are committed to helping people learn how to protect themselves so that they can get outside, get moving, and have fun -- without any of the downsides.

Gear – Whether you’re planning to play football, soccer, baseball or any other fun outdoor sport, you need to make sure you are wearing the appropriate shoes, clothes, and protective equipment. Take the extra time and spend the money on mouth guards, cleats, and helmets so you can enjoy the game without getting sidelined by a preventable injury.

Hydration – As it gets hotter outside, playing sports out in the sun means lots of sweating and lots of exertion. If you forget to stay on top of your water drinking, you may find yourself feeling faint, dizzy, and nauseous. Make sure to drink plenty of water on a regular basis to stave off dehydration.

Time Off – If you notice that you feel unusually sore, fatigued, and generally out of it, it may be time to take a day off from the sports and give your body the chance to heal and rest. We know how hard it can be to skip a day when you love to play sports and spend time with your team, but trust us, your body will appreciate it.

Stretching – It may be tempting to skip the boring warmup stretches and cool down stretches, but this is actually a crucial step in a healthy workout that is not to be missed. To warm up your muscles before you exert yourself, make sure to include a few moves that will loosen up your body and prevent injuries. Stretching after you’re done playing sports helps to lower your heart rate and calm you down before you go about the rest of your day.

If you would like to learn more about how to keep you and your child healthy and happy all spring and summer, we’d love to hear from you. Simply fill out this contact form and our staff will be in touch to answer all your questions and offer up any advice you may need.
