Each year in February, the American Dental Association (ADA) sponsors National Children’s Dental Health Month. The purpose of this month-long event, now in its 63rd year, is to bring together dentists, doctors, teachers, and parents to promote and educate proper oral care for kids across the country. In Waynesboro, VA, parents turn to Lisa Tatum, DDS, for all their children’s dental needs throughout this and every month. Dr. Tatum offers a full range of services to treat and educate the whole family on brushing, flossing, and other insights.

National Children’s Dental Health Month 2018

Parents should aim to have their kids brush for two full minutes twice per day and flossing once per day. The ADA offers a wealth of resources to help parents get their young ones excited about oral care.

How Dr. Tatum Promotes Children’s Oral Care

As a family dentistry practice, Dr. Tatum treats patients of all ages. She understands the unique needs of little teeth and their vulnerabilities to damage and decay, which is why she offers a full range of preventive care. Dr. Tatum recommends children come in for cleanings and a thorough oral exam twice per year, which will go a long way in cavity and gum disease prevention when combined with proper at-home oral care. Since kids often struggle to thoroughly brush their back molars, she also offers sealants, which provide a protective barrier to keep those teeth healthy and cavity-free.

Although February may be National Children’s Dental Health Month, proper oral care must continue to be part of kids’ daily routines throughout the year. That includes seeing the dentist regularly for oral exams and cleanings. If you’re struggling to get your child to brush and floss every day or if they’re overdue for a checkup, call Dr. Tatum’s dental office at (540) 943-0973 to schedule an appointment. You can also find additional information on the services she provides online.
