In Ohio, damages for personal injury are divided into two categories: non-economic losses and economic losses. Economic losses are those harms that can be calculated by looking at figures. These include your medical bills, lost wages, and if your injuries affect your ability to work in the future, your future lost earnings.

Non-economic losses include things like pain, inability to do regular activities, and mental worry.  In Ohio, the legislature has enacted limits (or “caps”) on the amount of non-economic harms and losses that a person can recover in a negligence case.

An experienced personal injury attorney, like  the attorneys at Miraldi & Barrett, can explain these limits to you and develop a strategy to minimize their effect on your case.
