Whether it's counting, colors or the ABCs, preschoolers are always learning something new. Learning through play is the primary way young children grasp new concepts. The preschool program at A Brighter Rainbow Learning Center in Billerica has a wide curriculum that uses play as a primary learning tool. Parents can reinforce what their child learns in class with fun at-home learning activities and games.

Educational games are an excellent way to keep active preschoolers busy while enriching their understanding of the world. Here are a few fun games to try at home with your preschooler:

  • A photo scavenger hunt is fun indoors and out: In this simple activity, your child uses a camera on a tablet computer or cell phone to snap pics for items from a category, such as objects that start with the letter R or five red things. Chances are your preschooler already knows how to take pictures, but if he doesn't, start with quick instructions first.
  • Play alphabet bingo: Print bingo cards onto sturdy card stock with letters (works best if one square includes both capital and lowercase). Call out a letter and tell your preschooler to mark it by placing a small candy, such as jelly beans, on top of it as a marker. If your child is struggling to find the letter, write it down so she can visually match instead. This also works with numbers.
  • I Spy is classic fun: Take turns with your preschooler saying, "I spy with my little eye something blue," or "something fuzzy," or "something round." The possibilities are endless.

Encourage your child's development with playful games at home and a nurturing early childhood education program. A Brighter Rainbow Learning Center offers both preschool and toddler daycare programs. Visit them online and call (978) 670-9222 to schedule a visit.
