Thyroid Purpose

The thyroid is a producer of hormones, therefore if there are problems with the thyroid, there can be a hormone imbalance. The Center for Women now uses BioTE® Medical in order to assist men and women to balance their hormones with hormone pelleting.

Thyroid Gland

The thyroid is the butterfly shaped gland in the neck that regulates many different metabolic processes throughout the body. The thyroid is just below the Adam’s apple and wraps around the trachea. It requires iodine to produce hormones. The primary hormone produced by the thyroid is called thyroxine (T4). To regulate the release of thyroxine the thyroid works in tandem with the hypothalamus and the pituitary gland. When levels of thyroxine are low, the hypothalamus releases thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH) which causes the pituitary gland to release thyroid stimulating hormone. More thyroid stimulating hormone allows for more thyroxine to be produced. Thyroid disorders affect the structure and function of the gland. These disorders can be acute or chronic and may be able to be treated with bio-identical hormone replacement therapy pellets such as the ones BioTE Medical discusses. Learn more about the kinds of thyroid disorders, their symptoms and how BHRT pellets may be able to help.

DISORDERS OF THE THYROID

There are several kinds of thyroid disorders. Included are hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, goiter, thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer. The most common thyroid condition is hypothyroidism which is when the thyroid produces an insufficient amount of thyroid hormone. It can come from issues within any part of the thyroid feedback loop including the thyroid gland, pituitary gland or hypothalamus. Hypothyroidism symptoms can include fatigue, poor concentration, dry skin, constipation, feeling cold, fluid retention, muscle aches, depression and excessive menstrual bleeding in women.

BIO-IDENTICAL HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY

Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy or BHRT is the practice of using plant based hormones to supplement low hormone levels or balance high hormone levels in the body. BioTE Medical offers BHRT to those experiencing thyroid problems in an effort to help them regain emotional and physical balance. Within 7-10 days after your pellet insertion, Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) begins to work and BioTE Medical patients are back to their active lifestyles. Dr. Harley Barrow and Nurse Practitioner Amanda Thornton offer this procedure in their office now as BioTE Certified Providers.
