There is nothing better than sinking into a warm, bubbling hot tub at the end of a long day. If you want to ensure it’s always ready and waiting to promote relaxation, though, you need to maintain it well. Below, the friendly team at Maui Pool Supplies in Kihei, HI, shares a few helpful tips to get started.

How to Maintain Your Hot Tub

1. Test the Water & Track All Refills

If you install a salt water system, you may only need to drain and refill the tub once a year. With a traditional bromine or chlorine system, though, you will likely have to change out the water every three to four months. Regardless of what system the tub has, test the water regularly and keep track of how often you replace it. To learn more about draining a particular tub, read the owner’s manual.

2. Empty the Filter Monthlyhot tub

Make sure to clean the filter monthly, regardless of how frequently you actually use the hot tub. Take it out and use a garden hose to spray it down. Rotate the filter while spraying to ensure all debris is dislodged from the pleats. You should also take note of when the filter was installed, and remember to replace it with a new one every two to three years.

3. Don’t Forget to Clean the Cover

Even the most conscientious hot tub owners can forget to clean the cover. No matter how clean the water may be, a dirty cover is going to promote bacteria growth and leave a musty smell. Use a diluted bleach solution to wipe down the entire cover every 60 to 90 days.
