It’s wonderful to know your little one enjoys spending time at their child care center. But if your end-of-day routine involves tears and headaches, it’s time for a positive change. Take a look at these tried-and-true tips.

How to Make Your End-of-Day Child Care Routine Easier

1. Keep a Snack in the Car

If you’re picking up your child after work, they likely haven’t eaten a full meal since lunch—which is a recipe for one cranky car ride, especially if you have a long commute. Pack your vehicle with their favorite snacks, and tell your little one they have a treat waiting for them in the car when you see them.

2. Slow Down

If your schedule allows it, set aside a pocket of time to let your little one wrap up their playtime, gather their things, and say goodbye to their friends. Use this time to speak with their teachers and get an idea of how your child’s day went.

3. Stick to a Plan

Kids respond well to consistency. Once you’ve established a routine that works with your schedule, encourage your child to stick to it by giving them specific cues. Telling them they can have their snack when they get to the car reminds them they have a schedule to adhere to—and a delicious incentive!
