As the debate on immigration reform takes a more prominent place in American politics, many new developments stand to dramatically impact the futures of millions of immigrants in the United States. Berd & Klauss, PLLC, New York’s highly respected immigration attorneys, are carefully monitoring the progress of policy changes and other news stories potentially affecting you.

In February, a Federal judge in Texas temporarily blocked new Obama administration rules that stand to grant legal status to an estimated 5 million undocumented immigrants. The rule changes, which were met with widespread excitement when they were announced last year, would expand the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and allow even more people who arrived in the country at a young age to apply for two-year work permits.

26 Republican-led states filed a lawsuit against the administration, which was upheld by U.S. District Judge Andrew S. Hanen in a February 17th hearing on the merits of the case. In the hearing, the judge did not issue a decision on whether the administration is acting within their authority, but did put a temporary stay on the changes until the courts reach a final decision.

While the rule changes have prompted a renewed national debate on immigration policy, there are currently no bills pending that would address problems with America’s existing immigration system.

As some of New York’s premier attorneys specializing in immigration law, Berd & Klauss, PLLC are closely following this extremely important story. Visit them online to learn more about their range of legal services, or call (212) 461-7152 today to schedule a consultation.
